The new installment of the franchise overhauls the diplomacy mechanics.
The authors of the global strategy Europa Universalis 5 have presented a new development diary. This time they propose to consider diplomacy.
In EU5, diplomacy has been reworked: previously, it depended on a fixed number of diplomats, each of whom could perform one action at a time.
Now diplomats act as a kind of "diplomatic currency":
- Diplomatic actions will require a diplomat (offer of alliance, dynastic marriage, declaration of war, etc.). Prolonged diplomatic actions, such as improving relations, seeking favor, or creating a spy network, will consume diplomats monthly for maintenance.
- The number and growth of new diplomats depend on: the rank of the power, public values, improvements, diplomatic expenses, and the construction of royal gardens in the capital.
- There is a "diplomatic range" — this is a value that determines how far diplomats can reach. As the game progresses, this value increases with improvements and the growth of the power's rank.
Europa Universalis 5 is expected to be released on November 4, 2025.
