Obsidian Entertainment has confirmed that in The Outer Worlds 2, relationships with allies will develop dramatically — up to an irreparable outcome.
In an interview, game directors Matt Singh and Brandon Adler said that allied characters will act as independent personalities with their own goals, values, and motivations, up to the possibility of killing the main character.
If the player acts in accordance with their beliefs, allies will remain loyal and fight alongside; otherwise, they may first protest, then distance themselves, and even attack the protagonist.
Obsidian intends to make the world of The Outer Worlds 2 more realistic, giving companions significance on a plot and moral level. Conflicts will develop gradually: characters will express dissatisfaction through dialogues, ultimatums, and specific requests, giving a chance to restore relations or accept a final break.
The goal of this approach is to create dynamic and logical relationships, where moral decisions really affect the reaction of the world, and not only dialogues and endings.
