Todd Howard's space adventure has already become a talking point, it's just that Inon Zur isn't aware yet.
In a recent interview, composer Inon Zur talked about his work on soundtracks for his most famous games and shared his opinion on the music for Starfield. According to the author, this work became one of his favorites — along with compositions for Fallout 4, Rise of the Ronin, and Syberia.
Zur said that when creating music for Starfield, he sought to find a balance between the usual "space" sound and the formation of a new musical language. The composer noted that he was inspired by the feeling of a huge and almost motionless space, inside which many rapid events occur simultaneously — ships move, objects appear and disappear, and space is constantly changing.
At the same time, he deliberately avoided trying to directly imitate famous authors of space music. Although his style was inevitably influenced by composers such as John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Vangelis, and Igor Stravinsky, Zur emphasizes that the main thing for him was to convey the emotions and spirit of the game itself. According to him, it was the idea and mood that made the Starfield soundtrack both unique and accessible to listeners.
Despite the fact that the game itself did not achieve the same success as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or Fallout 4, the composer is confident that the attitude towards the project will change over time. He believes that many players were simply not ready for such a project at the time of its release.
Separately, Zur highly praised Bethesda Game Studios head Todd Howard, calling him one of the most creative and inspiring people in the industry. According to the composer, Howard has a clear vision and knows how to simultaneously give the team creative freedom and direct the work towards his own concept.
Zur is convinced that it is this confidence in his vision that will eventually allow Starfield to take its place among legendary games. In his opinion, such projects often take time for the audience to fully appreciate their ideas.
