Game Science has released an update for Black Myth: Wukong on PlayStation 5 that aims to improve performance but reduces visual quality.
Patch version 1.0.20.21756 is designed to improve responsiveness and stability, but as Digital Foundry's analysis showed, the PS5 version is now visually closer to the Xbox version.
The update requires about 93 GB of free space, indicating significant changes to the game's systems. The main thing is to return the performance mode to 60 Hz in order to reduce input lag and stabilize the resolution. But improvements have been achieved by simplifying the lighting, in particular, removing or changing the Lumen global illumination, which previously defined the visual style of the game.
On PS5, visual changes are most noticeable in the new performance mode, which now repeats the Xbox Series X settings: weaker indirect lighting, softer shadows, less depth and atmosphere.
There are almost no changes on Xbox, the configuration remains the same. PS5 Pro offers both modes, although the visual settings are almost identical to the base PS5. Balanced and high-quality Pro modes provide a smoother and more stable visual experience.
Performance has increased slightly: Digital Foundry recorded an increase of 1–2 frames per second in individual scenes, and loading times decreased from 18.69 to 17.95 seconds. The main controversial detail remains the removal of Lumen, which makes the world look flatter and less dynamic.
