YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits has published a comparison of the original Halo: Combat Evolved and the upcoming Halo Campaign Evolved remake. The project is being created on Unreal Engine 5 and promises a modern, yet faithful to the original, reworking of the 2001 campaign.
The release is scheduled for 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5, with support for Game Pass, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Play Anywhere from day one.
Unlike the remaster, the game is being built from the ground up. It completely updates textures, lighting, and environments in 4K, so that each location looks handcrafted. The developers used modern rendering technologies while preserving the original code and simulation. This will allow the game to remain recognizable in terms of gameplay, but look like a modern AAA project.
The remake will also add new elements. It will feature three prologue missions that expand the story with new characters and enemies. For the first time, an online co-op for up to four players and a classic two-player mode will be available. The arsenal will include nine types of weapons from the entire series — including the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle, plus six more that have not yet been shown. For the first time, players will be able to hijack vehicles and control the Wraith tank in the first campaign.
Despite the large-scale changes, the creators emphasize that the goal is to preserve the original spirit of Halo.
