Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has publicly acknowledged that the company made a mistake in the case of streamer Emiru, who was harassed at TwitchCon 2025 in San Diego.

On October 17, during a meet-and-greet, one of the attendees broke through the barrier, grabbed Emiru's face, and attempted to kiss her without consent.

"I want to be direct: we failed to keep Emiru safe at her meet and greet. This should not have happened and we take it seriously. We failed, both in planning and in our response. I also regret my comments and apologize to Emiru for everything that occurred."

Immediately after the incident, Twitch stated that the perpetrator was removed from the venue and banned from the platform. But later, Emiru said that the man calmly left and was only detained several hours later. TwitchCon attendees also complained about weak security and insufficient protection for streamers.

After the criticism, Clancy made another statement:

"We failed, both in preventing and in responding."

He promised to review the security system at TwitchCon, including access control and the organization of meet-and-greets.

The head of Twitch added that the company will change the rules regarding offline events and streams, and promised to keep the community informed. He emphasized that the goal is to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of all participants.

"We hear the concern about IRL streams at TwitchCon. Twitch has grown, and such broadcasts have become part of the platform, but we must consider the needs of all participants. We will review the rules and share the innovations soon."
