Some developers really like the modern Epic Games engine.
Recently, Reinhard Pollice, CEO of Alkimia Interactive, discussed the remake of the first Gothic with GRY Online.
The journalist asked what the developers would have done differently if they had started working on the Gothic remake right now (would they have changed anything / would they have taken a different engine?).
Reinhard spoke positively about the Unreal Engine 5 being used:
Of course, there will always be things that take a lot of time, but it turned out that they could have been done much better and faster. We would have saved months of work. I would probably have waited until Unreal Engine 5 got rid of its "teething problems" [various technical problems....} But I definitely wouldn't trade [UE5] for another engine. I think it allows you to create great graphics and animation, has good tools, and it's no coincidence that even CD Projekt RED is using it now.
The release of the Gothic remake is expected in 2026.
