The new shooter from Activision and Treyarch, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, is the first game to use AMD FSR Redstone Ray Regeneration.

According to YouTuber Daniel Owen, this is a new machine learning-based denoising algorithm designed to improve image quality with ray tracing (in this case, real-time reflections) while maintaining relatively low resource consumption.

Ray Regeneration technology is designed to extract and restore high-quality ray tracing details, functioning similarly to NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction technology. It uses machine learning to clean up noisy ray tracing data, resulting in sharper and more stable reflections compared to traditional denoisers. While the full Redstone suite will include more features, Ray Regeneration is the first component to become available to consumers.

Testing was conducted on a Radeon RX 9070 XT via the built-in Black Ops 7 benchmark at 4K, 1440p, and 1080p resolutions with maximum settings, including RT reflections at the High level. The results showed more detailed reflections, especially on water and shiny surfaces, with more accurate highlights and reduced blur.

Performance drops slightly: at 4K in FSR Performance Ray Regeneration loses approximately 3 FPS, about 5%, and at lower resolutions, only 1–2 FPS.
