The developers decided to keep some interesting ideas.
Various games have been created in the Resident Evil franchise, and not all of them made it to release. Before Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom was working on a multiplayer game that was eventually canceled. However, the work was not in vain, and it was decided to keep certain developments.
In a conversation with Press Start Australia, Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa said that the game will feature something from the canceled online project:
There are some elements left, but we can't reveal what they are and how they are implemented.
The creator explained that the horror element in that game was "moderate" and they came to the conclusion that fans of Resident Evil would not like it:
We carefully studied it and asked ourselves "will fans of the franchise like it?", and decided that they probably wouldn't like it. That's why we went back to single-player mode. But since [the canceled online game] was interesting, we added elements from that version to the final version to make it even more exciting.
The release of Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled for February 27, 2026.
