Various factions will clash on one planet.
The authors of the strategy game Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War 4 have released a new diary dedicated to working on the game. They talked about a partner who helps them navigate the lore.
KING Art studio's consultant is John French, the author of books such as "Praetorian of Dorn", "Silent War", "Sons of the Emperor", "Tallarn: Executioner".
The events of the story they prepared unfold approximately 200 years after Dawn of War: Dark Crusade (an expansion for the original DoW):
A rift in reality, known as the Great Rift, has split the galaxy and left the planet Kronus – as well as some Space Marines of the Blood Ravens Chapter – cut off from the rest of the world. Commanders Cyrus and Jonah head to Kronus to begin rebuilding their Chapter, but soon discover a sinister danger that threatens the entire galactic sector.
However, it's not just the Space Marines who have turned their attention to the planet:
Deep beneath the sands of Kronus, an Adeptus Mechanicus expedition discovers a Necron complex. At first, they mistake it for a tomb, then for a prison. But a prison for what? As the campaign progresses, it becomes clear how this buried secret affects the Orks and Adeptus Mechanicus, attracting the Necrons themselves to Kronus, while the Space Marines desperately fight for survival.
Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War 4 will feature several factions, including Orks and Space Marines:
We knew we needed Space Marines, because this is Dawn of War – the Blood Ravens have to be in the game! We also started to see DoW 4 as a kind of reimagining of the very first part, so everyone unanimously decided that Orks should also be included in the factions.
The authors of DoW 4 also decided to add two more factions:
The Necrons haven't been playable since the release of Dark Crusade. The game takes place on Kronus, which gave us a great reason to bring them back. As for the last slot, we wanted to complement our roster with a faction that has never been in the Dawn of War series and that would be new to everyone – the Adeptus Mechanicus were perfect for this role!
The developers of Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War 4 clarified that they treat the campaign and multiplayer as two completely different things: they can make a very, very strong unit in the campaign, and weaken it in the multiplayer game for balance.
