The mobile adaptation of the ill-fated Dark and Darker will not reach global release and will cease to exist.
Publisher Krafton has announced the closure of the mobile game Abyss of Dungeons — a project conceived as an adaptation of Dark and Darker for smartphones. The game was previously released in early access under a new name in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, and Thailand, but will not reach a global release.
The latest update, titled The Master of Chaos, was released on November 26 and was the final one. The servers will be shut down on January 20, 2026, and in-game purchases have already been disabled. After the servers are closed, all user data will be deleted without the possibility of recovery.
In an official statement, the team thanked the players for their support and explained the decision with the results of an analysis of the project's status and its prospects. According to the developers, it is not possible to provide long-term support and stable development of the game.
«After carefully examining the current state of the game and assessing the long-term prospects, we have come to the conclusion that we will not be able to provide players with the experience they deserve».
Krafton also announced a refund procedure: requests will be accepted from January 21 to March 21, 2026. Refunds apply only to unused platinum coins purchased from February to September 2025, as well as paid items purchased after October.
The closure of Abyss of Dungeons was not unexpected. Back in August, Krafton suspended pre-registration of the global version due to poor engagement metrics. At the time, the publisher emphasized that this did not mean the cancellation of the release, but three months later, the team finally recognized the project as unprofitable.
