Skyrim Port for Switch 2 Disappoints Fans: Low FPS, Crashes, and Lags
The release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Nintendo Switch 2 was supposed to be another nostalgic return for the role-playing game, but instead, players received one of the most disappointing versions of the game.
According to recent reviews, the port is unstable: the game can crash within the first few minutes, even before choosing a side—Imperials or Stormcloaks. Subsequent failures require a restart, and there are problems resuming the game on a locked console and when switching to the system menu.
Technically, the situation is depressing. Skyrim on Switch 2 most often runs at 30 fps, without graphic settings, performance mode, or image quality scaling. This is surprising, considering that the console handles Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Outlaws, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
A noticeable control lag was also observed—both in docked and handheld modes—which made combat and world exploration feel unpleasantly slow.
On December 19, Bethesda released a patch that eliminated control lag and unlocked the frame rate. The graphics quality remained the same, but the FPS increased. Although in some dungeon locations it is possible to reach 60 frames per second, in open spaces the frequency rarely exceeds 40 FPS.
The ported version includes a full set of DLCs and Creation Club support.
