One of the video card owners did not appreciate the genius of design thought and returned the video card.
ASUS has officially stated that the slightly offset 16-pin (12V-2x6) power connector on the flagship ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 5090 Platinum 30th Anniversary Edition video card is not a manufacturing defect. According to the company's engineers, this position of the connector is a deliberate feature of the original design, due to general structural and electrical considerations.
The problem surfaced recently when one of the owners of the limited edition card (only a thousand copies were produced at a price of about $4,000) posted a complaint on Reddit: the standard power cable does not fully insert due to insufficient clearance between the connector and the cooler frame. The connector is shifted to the right, which makes the connection unreliable and potentially dangerous.
After contacting ASUS support, the user received a response:
After verification by our engineering team, it has been confirmed that the off-center position of the power connector is part of the original product design, determined based on overall structural and electrical calculations.
The company refused to repair or replace the card, citing the absence of a defect. The owner decided to return the video card.
