Helldivers 2 Might Become Something More — Developers Considering Adding 8-Person Missions and Huge Maps

Instead of Helldivers 3, players may see big changes in the second part of the franchise.

Former head of Arrowhead Game Studios, and now creative director, Johan Pilestedt participated in a new episode of A Democratic Conversation.

He recently stated that the developers are "growing Helldivers 2 to the level of Helldivers 3," and now he has made it clear what this might look like. When Johan was asked what "sequel-level features" he would like to see in the game, he said:

There are quite a few [such elements], and, as it seems to me, the community understands well in which direction the game should be developed, if we consider it from the point of view of creating a sequel.

Then he continued:

Missions for 8 players are one such example. Larger open maps where you might team up with other Helldivers squads to take on more serious challenges together. Operations that affect other teams also fall into this category.

In general, in Johan Pilestedt's understanding, sequel-level features are practically everything "that truly emphasizes the Galactic War and the scale of the conflict in which players are involved."
