In 2027, Middle-earth will return to the big screens with familiar faces.

On January 6, a video was posted on the Gollumgram account on Twitter/X, in which Sir Ian McKellen talks about his return to "The Lord of the Rings" franchise. In the video, the actor confirms that he is preparing for the filming of a movie set in Middle-earth and also shares casting "secrets."

“Filming begins in May. The director will be Gollum, and the whole film will be dedicated to Gollum. But I will reveal two casting secrets to you: there is a character named Frodo in the film and a character named Gandalf. And besides that, I won't tell you anything else.”

At the same time, the actor did not explicitly confirm whether Elijah Wood would return to the role of Frodo; however, it is assumed that this is possible, as he was also present at the event along with other actors from the original trilogy.

Meanwhile, it appears that the recording is from a fan meeting held back in August 2025 at the For the Love of Fantasy festival in London. It was then that this quote from McKellen spread through the media and became a topic of discussion regarding the possible return of the original trilogy's actors.

Thus, the video published on January 6 is a video confirmation of McKellen's already known words, rather than a new statement.

It is known that the film "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum," directed by Andy Serkis, will tell the story of events unfolding shortly before "The Fellowship of the Ring." The film's premiere is scheduled for December 2027.
