Five days after its release, the rising indie game began to be accused of intellectual property theft. Reddit users noticed that many item and skill icons were directly cut from The Witcher, Lords of the Fallen, and the card game Magic: The Gathering. It is claimed that the sound effects in the game are borrowed from another MMORPG — Aion.

An unclear past of the lead developer under the nickname Xjum casts an additional shadow on the project. The community quickly linked him to Gummy52 — a figure known among World of Warcraft players for controversial actions with private servers, which often suddenly shut down.

Although the developer denies these connections, the atmosphere around the game is heating up: users asking uncomfortable questions on the official Discord server are promptly banned. This reinforces doubts about the author's real intentions, even despite Dreadmyst being promoted as a completely free game.

In addition to moral and legal issues, the project raises concerns about data security. The game requires registration through a WordPress site, where the "Terms of Service" and privacy policy buttons lead nowhere. The lack of transparent rules, combined with a recent DDoS attack on the servers, has led to calls to massively complain about Dreadmyst on Steam. World of Warcraft fans also warn to stay away from a project with such a reputation.
