Ubisoft Changes Course: Project Cancellations, Studio Closures, and New Strategy

The company has canceled several projects, postponed the releases of others, and announced the closure of two studios. Ubisoft calls what is happening a "reboot" and explains the decisions by the fact that the AAA game market has become more selective, competition has intensified, and the development of brands with growing budgets is increasingly turning into a risk.

In an official statement, the company emphasizes its desire to become "more player-oriented." In fact, this means a transition to a new management model based on clearly defined genres and key areas around which further development will be built.

Ubisoft's main focus is on two formats — open-world games and "game-service" projects. To this end, it is planned to strengthen the specialization of teams, selectively allocate investments, and more actively introduce modern technologies. Generative AI is mentioned separately, "focused on players," which, according to the company, should support the gaming experience.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also announced a new three-year roadmap, accompanied by a sharp reduction in costs. This means new project cancellations, release postponements, studio closures, and a large-scale restructuring that will affect the entire company and its key series.
