Bungie's new shooter has undergone its first major tests outside of North America, and the feedback from the Chinese Douyin Games event is encouraging.
Since the first announcements, the game has changed significantly — the visual style has become darker and more mysterious, which refers to the studio's roots, such as Pathways into Darkness and the original Marathon trilogy. New character models and their appearances show Bungie's ambitions for unique, high-budget design.
One of the strongest elements of the game will be the elaborate narrative component and world-building. Each faction has its own clear motivations and unique origins, revealed in detailed training. For fans of the classics, an in-game encyclopedia and hidden plot elements have been prepared, such as the will of Dr. Strauss, which connects the plot to the original.
In terms of gameplay, Marathon promises to be one of the most challenging games in the genre: aggressive AI, dangerous traps, expensive healing items, and risky PvP battles force you to constantly think and plan. The arsenal includes 28 unique weapons, each with at least two skins that can radically change the appearance.
