According to recent leaks, the PS6 may not be released until the end of the decade. Journalist Jason Schreier believes that postponing the release for several years is beneficial for everyone.
A Bloomberg editor reported that Sony is considering shifting the launch of the PlayStation 6 to as late as 2029. The reason is the shortage and rising prices of RAM due to the boom in data centers for AI.
Schreier noted on X:
Postponing the launch of the PS6 for several years would be a positive consequence of the RAM crisis! Launching in 2027 would be a disaster for everyone involved.
The editor draws attention to an important point: the development of large games today takes many years.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that game development now takes 5-7 years, it seems that the PS5 era is just beginning. In addition, the console's popularity is not high, as everyone can play Roblox and Minecraft on their old devices. It's hard to imagine that buyers would be interested in the PS6 in 2027.
Now, releasing a new expensive device is impractical. It is better to give the PS5 several years for major releases, and the transition to the PS6 will occur when the technology and component prices become beneficial for players again.
