The team of former Firaxis developers, who dreamed of reviving the life simulation genre, closed down before the release of their first game.
Midsummer Studios, founded by industry veterans led by former XCOM developer Jake Solomon, announced its closure just a year and a half after the studio's official creation announcement.
At the same time, Solomon published short footage of the pre-alpha version of the debut game Burbank — a life simulator that was supposed to "revive the genre" and combine it with the concept of "The Truman Show."
According to the developer, the team managed to create a working prototype and bring the project to a playable state, but the studio is still ceasing operations. Solomon noted that he is proud of the work done and wanted to show the game, "into which they put their heart," before the studio finally closes.
At the time of closing, Midsummer Studios employed about ten people. The reasons for the termination of activities are not officially disclosed, and the future of the project remains unknown.
