This time, fans drew attention to the physics of water.
Fans of the Grand Theft Auto series continue to find forward-thinking technical details in the classic installments of the franchise. This time, the focus was on the physics of water in Grand Theft Auto IV, which even years later is able to surprise — including the developers.
On X, the GTA 6 Countdown account published a video of a helicopter landing in shallow water. As the machine descends to the surface of the water, the air currents from the blades literally disperse the water, creating a dry area for landing. After the screws stop, the water returns, and when taking off again, it scatters again.
Obbe Vermeij, former technical director at Rockstar Games who worked on GTA IV, reacted to the video. According to him, the effect was originally intended more as a visual detail.
That's cool. I was expecting it to be just a visual effect. Honestly, I didn't think about the side effects in shallow water.
