It's rare for an older and theoretically weaker console to win against the newest "Pro" model. However, according to a report by Digital Foundry experts, an update for Assassin's Creed Unity made the game look significantly better on Xbox Series X than on PS5 Pro.
The key factor was resolution: while the Sony device outputs an image in 1296p, the Microsoft console squeezes out 1620p. In a project that doesn't use modern anti-aliasing techniques (TAA), these extra pixels make a huge difference in image clarity.
The "humiliation" for the Japanese giant doesn't end there. Although the PS5 Pro maintains a slightly more stable 60 frames per second, the Xbox Series X has a "hidden weapon" in the form of system-level VRR support for backward compatibility. Sony still hasn't introduced this feature for older games, which means any minor dips on the Xbox remain invisible to the eye. As a result, Arno's adventures on the Series X are not only sharper but also appear smoother.
For Xbox Series S owners, the news is less enthusiastic: the resolution has only increased to 960p, but the console delivers a stable 60 FPS. It seems that even ten years after its release, Unity is capable of squeezing everything out of modern chips, reminding us that pure power isn't everything.
