Screenwriter of "Mortal Kombat 2" Has Ideas for Four More Films
Jeremy Slater would like the franchise to stay in cinemas for a long time.
Although "Mortal Kombat 2" has only recently been released, the creators of the franchise are already discussing the distant future of the series. Screenwriter Jeremy Slater admitted in an interview with Variety that he has ideas for at least four more sequels — up to the sixth film.
"I have dozens of characters I want to show in live-action. Some will appear very soon, and others we are saving for hypothetical fourth, fifth, or sixth films. In case of success, we will try to include as many classic [characters] as possible, but we will always be careful not to overwhelm the audience."
However, "Mortal Kombat 3" has not yet received an official green light. It was previously assumed that the film was approved back in October 2025, and the script was written by the end of February 2026.
In reality, the studio only asked Slater to start working on the text in case the sequel was successful. By March 2026, he had finished the first version of the script and is now refining the second.
The further fate of the third film will likely depend on the box office performance of "Mortal Kombat 2," which looks ambiguous after the first weekend.
