Stardew Valley Creator Refused to Use AI - He Won't Entrust the Creative Process to an Algorithm

ConcernedApe believes that creativity should be handled by humans, not AI.

AI-based technologies are rapidly developing, and many developers are already integrating them into their workflows. However, there are also opponents of this approach — not only ordinary gamers but also industry representatives.

Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone gave an interview to GameInformer and outlined his position on AI. He understands the appeal of AI when it comes to "very narrow, specific tasks," but believes that everything creative is best left to humans:

When you hand over creativity to an algorithm, in my opinion, it always undermines the pure and authentic human element of what you're doing [...] For me, as someone who strives for artistic self-expression, it would be unthinkable to use AI for anything creative, because it goes against the very essence of what I do. My goal is self-expression through creativity. Why would I let AI do that for me?

Eric Barone also noted that there are many people in the world who would like to have a chance to express themselves through creativity, and it seems to him that "this should be more important than a soulless machine."

During the interview, he also spoke about working on his new project, Haunted Chocolatier, and once again recalled the idea of a "cheating" mechanic for Stardew Valley.
