Jon Bernthal made a triumphant return as Frank Castle.

The special "The Punisher: The Last Kill" starring Jon Bernthal quickly became one of Disney+'s major releases. According to FlixPatrol data on May 15, the project topped the service's overall chart in the US and Disney+'s international ranking, surpassing other Marvel titles, including the second season of "Daredevil: Born Again" and Spider-Man films. The film currently holds the top spot in 73 out of 79 countries where Disney+ is available.

Such interest is easily explained: Frank Castle, played by Jon Bernthal, has not appeared on screen for a long time, and in just a month and a half, he will return in Tom Holland's fourth solo film "Spider-Man: A New Day" and play a significant role there. Back in late 2025, the film, according to Google search statistics, was among the most anticipated releases of 2026, alongside "Avengers: Doctor Doom."

The special episode was released on May 12, 2026, a week after the finale of the second season of "Daredevil: Born Again." On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has a 76% approval rating from critics and 87% from audiences. These figures are higher than those of the original Netflix series, which had 64% and 79% respectively.
