Max Huang Dreams of a Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks Film Adaptation - A Spin-off About Liu Kang and Kung Lao
The actor playing Kung Lao is confident that the story of the two Shaolin monks deserves its own movie.
In an interview with IGN, actor Max Huang, who plays Kung Lao, said he would like to see a film adaptation of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks – a standalone spin-off of the Mortal Kombat series released in 2005.
According to Huang, the idea has already been discussed within the team, and Ludi Lin, who played Liu Kang, also strongly supports it. The actors would like to further explore the characters' origins, their training with Bo' Rai Cho, and the history of the White Lotus.
Against this backdrop, Jeremy Slater's recent statement, the screenwriter of "Mortal Kombat 2," who has ideas for four more films, sounds intriguing. It is unknown whether the proposed spin-off was on this list. For now, the creators must wait for the green light to produce "Mortal Kombat 3" – especially given the sequel's not-so-strong performance at the global box office.
