"Progressiveness Tax": Internet Mocks Sony Over PS Plus Price Hike
People believe the company is simply trying to make players pay for its failed financial decisions.
Sony announced a new price increase for PlayStation Plus subscriptions, which sparked a wave of discontent among players and reignited debates about the cost of gaming services.
On gaming forums and social media, users widely criticized the company's decision, accusing Sony of constantly raising prices without noticeable improvements to the service.
You guys have completely lost your minds blaming market conditions. Online should be free in 2026 anyway.
First you raised the price of the PS5, and now you're increasing the subscription cost. What the hell is going on?
Progressiveness tax, huh, Sony? Gotta get that money back for failures like Concord, Saros, and Marathon.
Game prices are rising. Console prices are rising. Accessory prices are rising. Now subscription prices are rising… again. At some point, “market conditions” just becomes the industry equivalent of “yeah, we’re ###, so what?”.
The increase comes just weeks after Sony raised prices for the PlayStation 5 console in Europe and several other international markets. At the time, the company attributed the decision to inflation and changing economic conditions.
According to the updated tariffs, the cost of a monthly PlayStation Plus Essential subscription in the US will rise to $10.99. In Europe, the price will be €9.99, and in the UK, £7.99.
Three-month subscriptions in these regions will also become more expensive. Sony stated that the changes reflect “global market conditions” and will take effect on May 20 for new subscribers in the affected countries.
Existing users in many regions will retain current prices unless they cancel their subscription or change their plan. However, according to local media and gaming publications, in some countries, including India and Turkey, the changes may also affect active subscriptions.
