PlayStation boycott began today due to disc abandonment - participants already criticized for wrong strategy

News

On August 23, the "#PSBlackout" boycott begins. Users who are dissatisfied with Sony Interactive Entertainment's policy and the abandonment of discs for PlayStation games intend to stop using services to draw attention to the problem.

According to the dissatisfied, Sony has been "increasingly distancing itself from its fanbase" for several years, and the abandonment of physical versions of games has become "the last straw" for some players:

We understand that SIE's capabilities are limited, but in the decisions within its power, the company continues to misuse the strong position inherited from the PS4 era. PlayStation currently has so many problems that bringing back physical versions of games would only be a half-hearted step towards players. SIE is capable of doing much more — we miss Twisted Metal, SOCOM, Sly Cooper, and we miss Japan Studio.

Boycott participants will not play on PlayStation, make purchases, use PS Store, donate to games, or subscribe to PS Plus.

Not all members of the PlayStation community share the optimism of the organizers and participants of the boycott. One of the most popular comments about the boycott situation was left by user JackJake94: "This will lead to absolutely nothing."

CaptainSloppo pointed out a problem with the boycott initiators' strategy: "A boycott with an end date is not a real boycott."

The "PSBlackout" is planned to last until August 30. The organizers believe that Sony will notice a drop in user statistics and thus understand that "many" want discs back.
