PS6 to get "smart" loading screens with match analysis and clips - patent

Sony is working on a next-generation console, and rumors suggest the PS6 could be released as early as next year. At the same time, the company is patenting technologies that are unlikely to make it to the PS5 and could become part of the next console.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has registered a patent for a system designed to make waiting in games less boring. This applies not only to loading screens but also to matchmaking, lobbies, and the time before a match starts.

The idea is to use "picture-in-picture" and AI. Instead of a "loading" or "waiting for players" message, users will be able to see short videos, clips, tips, match analyses, player reports, and promotional content.

The system will also be able to predict waiting times and select content based on its duration. For example, if matchmaking takes about 60 seconds, the console will show a 45-second video that will end right before the game starts. If the match begins earlier, the video will smoothly stop.

Before a match, the system can display opponent analytics, their playstyle, favorite weapons, and statistics, essentially creating a mini pre-match studio.

However, players also have concerns. If the technology is used for useful content, the idea looks interesting, but if it's filled with ads, the community's reaction could be negative.

For now, it's just a patent, and there's no guarantee that the feature will appear in consoles. Sony is exploring possibilities, and the PS6 could become the platform for their implementation.
