Petition for Destiny 3 gathers over 212,000 signatures in four days
The looter-shooter community is trying to reach Sony amidst news of the second installment's support ending.
The Destiny community has launched a campaign to save the franchise following news of the second installment's active support ending. In just four days, a fan petition demanding the production of Destiny 3 has gathered over 212,000 signatures. The initiators are trying to reach Sony's management directly and prove to the publisher that the series still has long-term commercial potential and a chance to attract a new audience.
In the text of the appeal, players emphasize that the closure of Destiny 2 should not be the end for the universe:
"The Destiny franchise has captured the minds of millions with its deep lore, engaging gameplay, and strong sense of camaraderie. With the end of Destiny 2's support, it's time to take the next step and keep this beloved series alive. That step must be the creation of Destiny 3. Our passion compels us to reach out to Sony and express our collective voice. We believe in the potential of a sequel to inspire a new generation of Guardians."
Since, according to Bloomberg, a full-fledged sequel is not even planned at the moment, the irritated community has resorted to direct pressure tactics. Players have begun massively lowering the user rating of Marathon — Bungie's new flagship project, for which, according to fans, the studio sacrificed Destiny.
Through review bombing, fans are trying to show Sony that attempting to forcibly transfer the audience to a new game could result in reputational and financial losses for the company. Bungie, meanwhile, is urgently finalizing a major content update with a PvE mode for Marathon to attract a new audience and maintain online presence.
