Star Wars Eclipse is in development hell. NetEase wants to get rid of Quantic Dream - rumor
The studio could be sold by the end of 2026.
The development of Star Wars Eclipse continues to be accompanied by alarming rumors. More than four years after the project's announcement, new reports have emerged that the game is in so-called "development hell."
This was reported by Insider Gaming journalist Mike Straw during a discussion of possible announcements for the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase. According to him, the situation within the Quantic Dream studio is far from ideal, and the management is allegedly considering exiting NetEase's control.
Straw claims that NetEase wants to get rid of Quantic Dream, and does not rule out that the studio could be sold by the end of 2026 or during 2027. According to him, a large amount of dissatisfaction and frustration has accumulated around the project, so a full demonstration of the game should not be expected anytime soon.
The journalist also reminded that Quantic Dream had hoped to use the revenue from the recently closed project Spellcasters Chronicles to fund the development of Star Wars Eclipse. However, these plans were not destined to come true: the game's servers will be permanently shut down on June 19. The situation is made particularly painful by the fact that, according to sources, Spellcasters Chronicles took about eight years to create.
Additional difficulties are related to the studio's internal restructuring. According to reports, Quantic Dream is undergoing a large-scale reorganization, which could lead to the reduction of up to 95 employees. Company representatives have not yet commented on the possible scale of the changes.
