The spin-off of the "Star Wars: Visions" anthology from Production I.G will be released on Disney+ this summer.

Anime Expo organizers announced that Production I.G and Lucasfilm will host a special screening of the first episode of the anime series "Star Wars: The Ninth Jedi." The premiere will take place on July 2 as part of a dedicated panel for the project.

At the event, the creators will show new footage and share fresh details. The panel will be personally attended by supervising director and screenwriter Kenji Kamiyama, director Shunsuke Tada, producer Hitoshi Ito, as well as Lucasfilm executive producers Jacqui Lopez and Josh Rimes.

In addition, it became known from the Anime Expo post that the full release of the series on Disney+ will take place this summer. It is highly likely that the exact premiere date will be revealed and a new trailer will be shown at the event.

"The Ninth Jedi" will be a spin-off of the short film of the same name from the animated anthology "Star Wars: Visions." The action takes place in an era when the Jedi have practically disappeared from the galaxy. The story centers on Kara, the daughter of master armorer Lah Zhima. Her father forges six unique lightsabers to revive the Order, but is soon captured by the Sith. Kara then takes one of the sabers and sets off in search of her father and surviving Force-wielders.

The original short film "The Ninth Jedi" was released as part of the first volume of "Visions" in 2021. Its sequel, "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope," which reached screens in October 2025 as part of the third volume of the anthology, continued Kara's story and filled the time gap between the first release and the upcoming series.
