Rewritten on the Fly: Justin Kuritzkes Helped Refine the Script for "Spider-Man: New Day" at Tom Holland's Request
Tom Holland is increasingly influencing creative decisions in Spider-Man films.
It recently became known that the script for the upcoming blockbuster "Spider-Man: New Day" was being refined during the filming process. According to The Wrap, Justin Kuritzkes, the screenwriter for Luca Guadagnino's sports drama "Challengers," joined the team of writers for this purpose.
Kuritzkes' involvement is linked to Tom Holland's expanded creative control. In a recent interview, Holland recalled how he and Zendaya realized on set that a key joint scene between Peter Parker and MJ "wasn't working at all."
After that, the actor approached the producers and director Destin Daniel Cretton. He made a radical decision: he sent the film crew home, and then Holland, Zendaya, and a certain "Justin" completely rewrote the episode overnight. The very next day, the scene was reshot and made it into the final cut of the film.
Now it has become clear that "Justin" was indeed Kuritzkes. In the final version of the film, he will receive an official mention in the credits for "rewritten screenplay." This will be the author's debut in superhero films after the cancellation of "Sgt. Rock," which he was working on for DC Studios.
"Spider-Man: New Day" is scheduled to premiere on July 31, 2026.
