Switch 2 will not get the classic version of Resident Evil Code: Veronica X
The announcement of the Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake at Summer Game Fest 2026 generated significant interest among series fans. Players began to hope that Capcom would also bring back the classic GameCube version of Code: Veronica X to the Nintendo Classics catalog on Switch 2. However, these expectations are not destined to come true.
During a closed Q&A session, series producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi directly answered a question about the possible addition of the game to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service: "there are no such plans at the moment."
This means that Nintendo Switch 2 owners should not expect the classic version to appear in the GameCube game library as part of the subscription for now. Nintendo and Capcom have also not announced any plans to bring back the old edition.
The decision may disappoint some players. The GameCube library in the service is gradually expanding and already includes F-Zero GX, SoulCalibur II, Mario Smash Football, and Chibi-Robo!. Many believed that Code: Veronica X would be the next logical addition.
The original Resident Evil Code: Veronica was released on Dreamcast in 2000. In 2001, Capcom released an expanded version, Code: Veronica X, which later appeared on PlayStation 2 and GameCube.
