It turns out that Batman: Arkham Knight fans have been praising a "feature" for 11 years that was just a bug

The peculiar behavior of the Dark Knight was not intended by the developers.

Batman: Arkham Knight was released more than 10 years ago, but Rocksteady Studios' game can still impress with its graphics quality, engrossing gameplay, and surprising attention to detail.

Some players noted (as they believed) an interesting detail in the interaction between Batman and Robin. If the main character crouched, his protégé would repeat the movement, but when the player controlled Robin and crouched, the Dark Knight would remain standing. Players believed this was intentional: Robin follows his mentor's lead, while Batman, being experienced, decides how to act on his own.

But recently, former Rocksteady Studio Senior Programmer Aadit Doshi revealed that it was just a bug:

I saw a Reddit post and an article about this a few years ago. The fan theory said that Robin follows Batman's lead, but Batman, being more experienced and a mentor, doesn't follow Robin's lead. I asked my manager at Rocksteady about it — he worked on that system… and he looked me straight in the eye and said, "Yeah, that's a bug." Half the game is in the player's imagination.

According to Aadit Doshi, this is "definitely not a bug that needs fixing":

When you're playing in a stealth segment, Batman still crouches to hide, so where it [crouching is really needed], it doesn't look strange.
