Bungie Loses Leader Amidst Destiny and Marathon Crisis - Journalists Report
According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, Justin Truman replaced Pete Parsons last year and is now stepping down.
Journalist Paul Tassi from Forbes also revealed that the studio is now led by former Vice President of Operations, Poria Torkan. Bungie has not officially confirmed this.
Insider Destiny Bulletin reported that Torkan was previously a producer for Killzone at Guerrilla Games. It was also noted online that SIE head Hermen Hulst, who signed off on the layoffs, is one of the co-founders of Guerrilla Games.
The reports emerged shortly after Bungie announced layoffs as part of a reorganization. The studio stated that Destiny 2 did not meet expectations, and after the final content update and considering future projects, the company can no longer operate at its previous scale.
An internal Sony letter from Hermen Hulst clarifies that the layoffs affected a significant number of Bungie employees, including a large part of the Destiny team and some of the Marathon team, as well as SIE employees supporting the studio.
The future of Marathon remains uncertain, although Sony calls the project an important part of its portfolio and promises support.
