Capcom still moved the release of Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Earlier, the company said it was not afraid of competition.
Capcom announced that the action game Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be released on September 4, although the release was previously scheduled for September 25. Thus, the game will go on sale almost three weeks earlier than the originally announced date.
The project will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set in Edo-era Kyoto, which has been engulfed by ominous clouds of Blight. Players will explore a dangerous city and fight demonic Genma creatures in a dark fantasy adventure.
The main character will be a samurai wielding the mystical Oni Gauntlet, which grants its owner the power to destroy Genma. The developers promise brutal sword fights, filled with bloody duels, as well as a story about finding one's own destiny.
Capcom also recalled the history of the franchise. The first Onimusha debuted in 2001 and told the story of a young warrior from feudal Japan who gained the power of Oni and entered the fight against the Genma demons. One of the key features of the series was the Issen mechanic, which allowed for deadly counterattacks at the perfect moment, as well as a dynamic combat system using cold weapons.
According to Capcom, total sales of Onimusha franchise games worldwide have already exceeded 8.7 million copies.
