MagicX Considers Developing Portable Console Mini40 - A Spiritual Successor to Mini Zero 28
MagicX also has to constantly adjust its plans due to the current memory situation. For example, it recently officially announced the discontinuation of the Mini Zero 28 portable console.
Mini Zero 28 stock is almost sold out — and, unfortunately, this portable console will no longer return to sale. DDR4 RAM prices have increased more than sixfold compared to the original cost, making further production simply unprofitable.
But there's no need to be too upset about this, as MagicX has introduced the Mini40, which is positioned as the “spiritual successor to the Z28”. The company's goal is for the device to remain an entry-level budget solution in the MagicX lineup, but with a switch from Android to Linux.
The design and ergonomics of the portable console are inspired by the classic Z28 case design. Its D-pad and ABXY buttons are larger than those of the Mini28. The bumper layout and strap attachment from the Mini28 have been retained. It features two Hall effect joysticks, support for custom buttons and cases, and 4–5 color options.
The specifications are as follows: processor — RK3566, RAM — DDR3 1GB / 1866 MHz, display — 4 inches, 800×480, OS — Linux (ported DarkOS).
It has two speakers, two SD card slots, 2.4G Wi-Fi, a vibration motor, and HDMI output support. Such a device would cost around $49 (3800–4000 rubles).
MagicX also notes that Mini40 development has not yet begun. The company is currently trying to assess whether there is enough audience interest to move forward.
According to a purchase intent survey (with 155 votes at the time of writing), 54% would consider buying the Mini40 “depending on the design”. Another 19% answered “No, I won't buy it”, 20% said “Yes, I will definitely pre-order”, 2% — “Yes, and I will buy 2 or more”, 5% — “I will wait for the retail release”.
