Valve accelerated Wi-Fi downloads for SteamOS - experimental update introduced
The company addressed a technical issue with data downloads.
In early July, Valve announced the release of a new version of SteamOS. The “3.8.22 Beta” update became available for the operating system.
The patch notes include only two items: a general one – “Security and Stability Improvements,” and a specific one. Developers found that sometimes the operating system could reduce download speeds; this error was observed on some router models:
Fixed an issue where Wi-Fi could operate at reduced speeds on some routers that incorrectly indicated MCS [Modulation Coding Scheme] requirements.
Valve stated that it simultaneously released these fixes in a full release as part of the SteamOS 3.8.14 update.
Previously, Valve introduced the SteamOS 3.8.13 update, which was designed to fix several issues related to firmware updates, as well as specific problems with launching one of Square Enix’s games:
- Fixed an issue where controller firmware updates failed on some Steam Deck models
- Fixed an issue causing crashes and launch errors in some titles, such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
