"The Mandalorian & Grogu" Returns Home - Disney+ Release Date Announced
The feature film continuation of the series did not meet the company's financial expectations.
The film "The Mandalorian & Grogu" will be released on Disney+ on September 2, 2026. Lucasfilm accompanied the announcement with a short video featuring words about the heroes returning home – to the platform where their story began in 2019.
The movie premiered in theaters on May 22, becoming the first feature-length "Star Wars" release since "Skywalker. The Rise." However, the series' popularity and the Baby Yoda phenomenon did not help Din Djarin achieve comparable success on the big screen.
In its opening weekend, "The Mandalorian & Grogu" earned $165 million worldwide, marking one of the weakest starts in the franchise's history. In its second week, US box office revenue plummeted by 69%, with a final gross of approximately $345 million against a production budget of $165 million, excluding promotion.
Disney later admitted that the film did not meet financial expectations at the box office. The company managed to offset some of the lost revenue through merchandise, including toys.

"The Mandalorian & Grogu" continues the events of the third season of the series. The New Republic hires Din Djarin to fight the scattered remnants of the Empire, and Grogu accompanies the bounty hunter as an apprentice.
