Sony is preparing a new DualSense Edge. The main change will be unexpected

Sony, according to FCC documents, is preparing an updated version of the DualSense Edge controller with the index CFI-ZCP2.

Sony is likely preparing an updated version of the DualSense Edge controller. A new variant with the designation CFI-ZCP2 has appeared in the documents of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), whereas the current model bears the index CFI-ZCP1.

It seems there will be no major changes in the design. According to the most popular theory, the main innovation is easier access to the built-in battery, allowing users to replace it themselves. This may be related to the European Right to Repair directive, which requires electronics manufacturers to provide the ability to replace batteries.

The rules are set to come into force in 2027 and have already led to changes in the design of some gaming devices. FCC documents also hint that the new DualSense Edge may be released then. Some materials for the device are locked until the end of January 2027. These presumably include new design images and instructions.

This will be the first revision of the DualSense Edge since the controller's release in early 2023. Sony has not yet officially confirmed the new model.
