In the new installment of the franchise, players will finally be able to choose their preferred camera.
In the original The Outer Worlds, players were offered a first-person view, which some did not like. The sequel was also going to follow this path, but then Avowed happened.
The authors introduced the ability to switch between first-person and third-person views in this game.
The Outer Worlds 2 developer Leonard Boyarsky and his team looked at the example of their colleagues and decided that they also needed to implement this feature:
«For me, the most important thing we learned from [the Avowed team's experience] is that they added a third-person view. We weren't planning to do that. We knew people wanted that feature back in the first game, but we couldn't implement it. It was an additional feature that we were considering adding [to TOW2], but we decided: \"Okay, we'll have to make a tough choice and leave it without that feature.\"»
However, once they did it [in Avowed], we thought, \"Oh, we should learn from them.\" They practically forced us to do it, because if they have a third-person view, we can't release a game without it.
I think it's good; it helps make the game accessible to those who don't like first-person games because of motion sickness. And people like the ability to look at their character from the side, dressing them up in a certain way».
