Next year, thanks to the Yokohama board game, Russian-speaking players will be able to travel to the Meiji era and become merchants who will have to conclude contracts with foreign ministers, develop technologies, and erect buildings in the city.
Employees of the Hobby World publishing house announced that in the first quarter of 2026 they are going to release the Yokohama board game in Russia, designed for 2-4 people.
This ambitious economic strategy from game designer Hisashi Hayashi will transport gamers to the Meiji era – a time when Japan was rapidly entering the world stage.
Players will be able to become merchants, paving the way to success through contracts with foreign ministers, technology development, and construction in key areas of the city.
Yokohama, which scored 7.8 out of 10 on the BGG portal, has a modular field that changes from game to game, a movement and influence mechanic (you have to activate zones, collect resources, and build commercial facilities).
Plus, there is a flexible economic system – contracts, church, customs, technologies, and achievements, so points can be scored in different ways. Also, each game, which takes approximately 90 minutes, offers new conditions and layout.
