Counter-Strike 2 is not only a competitive shooter, but also a large market for virtual items. Various scammers hunt for them.
Recently, another Counter-Strike 2 fan became a victim of scammers. This time, a gamer from Kirov was affected.
The victim met another player who appreciated his expensive skins and offered to team up for a joint game and chat on Discord (violates the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation) "for better coordination."
Several people were already waiting for him in Discord, offering him to go to Faceit to "play more seriously." He was told to find a special club and join it:
«In the chat of this club, there was a link for \"authorization\". By clicking on it, the young man saw an interface that almost completely imitated the official Faceit website, with a warning about switching to the \"new version of the Faceit 2.0 platform\"».
The gamer switched to the "new version" and the system requested login through a Steam account by scanning a QR code — after the scan, the attackers gained access to his account and stole items worth a total of 90,000 rubles.
The cyberpolice managed to identify the suspect. He turned out to be a 19-year-old resident of Kirov, during interrogation he pleaded guilty and told about the fraudulent scheme. According to him, he learned this method through video instructions on the Internet, his role was to search for victims in game sessions, and the motive was to "get easy money without working anywhere."
Now an investigation is underway to determine whether he is involved in similar incidents against other Russians.
