Fable 3, released in 2010, was the last major project of Lionhead studio, and still causes controversial assessments. Its creator, Peter Molyneux, admitted that the main reason for the problems was the lack of time.
In an interview with Edge magazine, the developer said that the original idea required three years, but Fable 3 was made in just a year and a half.
"The idea was simple: “You were a hero, now become a king and feel the moral weight of power.” But we were only given 18 months.”
Molyneux left Lionhead in 2012, and now regrets it. After his departure, the publisher wanted to close the studio immediately, but the developer convinced the management that it could still make a profit. As a result, Lionhead lasted until 2016.
"I should have fought for more time. If I had stayed, I would have said: “The game is not ready.” This has worried me for many years. I shouldn't have left. I had to help finish Fable 3.”
Molyneux added that the studio after his departure had ideas for Fable 4 and another game — All Of Us.
"It was completely insane — a mixture of world builder, RPG and what is now called battle royale. It was cool, but the project needed a person with a vision.”
Peter Molyneux is a figure both influential and controversial. He was behind many famous games, but became famous for громкими promises that were rarely realized. Now he admits his mistakes. The new Fable from Playground Games, announced in 2020, should be a continuation of his legacy, but the release date has not yet been announced.
