Some modern releases can rival Hollywood in terms of budget.

Recently, a documentary film from Shacknews, "24 'Til Launch: The Making of Borderlands 4," was released. The head of Gearbox spoke with journalists and shared his vision on some things.

Randy Pitchford thinks that the gaming industry has not yet reached its full potential and notes the growth of budgets, which sometimes exceed those of major films:

The budgets of our major video games now exceed the budgets of blockbusters. It's not easy to make the decision to allocate such resources to something. It's only possible if everyone involved is convinced that what you imagine has more value to exist in the world than the cost of creating it. And that means you both need an understanding of what it takes to create, faith in what it takes to create it, and an understanding of what it might be worth if it is created.

The creator believes that the gaming industry has not yet managed to make its own "Citizen Kane" (a cult work #1) and developers are still trying to understand the possibilities of interactive entertainment:

I like that we [as an industry] are just getting started. We don't even have our own "Citizen Kane" yet, let alone "Jurassic Park" or "Star Wars." We're just starting to figure it all out. But it's fun
