Project Art Director Jerry O'Flaherty draws parallels with films from the "Alien" universe.
The prequel Gears of War: E-Day will return the series to the frightening atmosphere of the original Gears of War from 2006. Project Art Director Jerry O'Flaherty drew an analogy: if the first part was Ridley Scott's "Alien" - a slow, claustrophobic horror with one invisible monster, then all subsequent games in the series turned into James Cameron's "Aliens": loud action games with hordes of enemies.
The first Gears felt like a horror with monsters in dark corridors. Then the franchise just became a "game with monsters" - and that's cool, people love parts 2, 3 and 4. But the original had isolation, tension, fear around every corner. We want to bring that back.
