The Pillars of Eternity community has been waiting. Obsidian Entertainment is preparing a major update for its famous role-playing game.
In 2025, the studio released Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2, and launched Grounded 2 in early access. But the team is not stopping there and has announced a major update for the first Pillars of Eternity.
Fans will get a new mode. Previously, the project only worked in a real-time with pause system, but now a turn-based style will appear, allowing you to plan each move and conduct battles like in classic strategies.
The public beta of the new mode starts on November 5th on Steam and PC Game Pass. The mode is based on the mechanics known from Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, but with improvements: the "Unbound Turns" system takes into account the speed of characters for the order of moves, free actions (changing weapons, potions) do not spend the entire turn-based phase, and battles have become more deadly and dynamic. Players will be able to switch between classic real-time battles and turn-based mode at any time.
The update is still in beta. The developers are asking players to test the system and leave feedback to perfect it.
