Henry Cavill's injury will not prevent the start of filming "Highlander" this year.
Dave Bautista, in an interview with Collider, spoke about preparing for the reboot of "Highlander", which will be directed by Chad Stahelski ("John Wick"). According to the actor, training began long before the official signing of the contract and became one of the most grueling in his career.
"I started training even before I got the role. We talked to Chad, and he asked me to come to London and start preparing. I did, and a couple of weeks later everything was officially signed. So I trained quite a bit. And it was very hard. I had not only physical training — stunt, fencing, and general combat — but also strength training. Chad also asked me to gain a few pounds, so the load was maximum."
Since August, the actor has been in London, combining preparation with the filming of Ilya Naishuller's "Road House 2". Despite the grueling schedule, Bautista does not complain and calls the role "the dream of a lifetime." In the upcoming film, he will play Kurgan — the main antagonist of Connor MacLeod, the hero of Henry Cavill.
The actor confirmed that production was slightly delayed due to Cavill's injury, but added that filming will begin on November 28, and training will continue until then. Although "Highlander" may resemble Stahelski's films about John Wick, Bautista emphasized that the tone of the film and the fight scenes will be completely different, calling the upcoming project a "breakthrough."
News of the imminent start of filming gives hope that the film will still be released on schedule. Earlier, Chad Stahelski announced his intention to present the film in 2027 or 2028, but after Cavill's injury, it seemed that the release would be postponed. The media reported that filming would not begin in the fall, as planned, but only in 2026, as Cavill would need six months for rehabilitation.
