Geralt from The Witcher Trilogy by CDPR Praised Liam Hemsworth for His Performance in the Netflix Series
Doug Cockle believes that Liam Hemsworth managed to "make the character his own" after replacing Henry Cavill.
After Henry Cavill's departure, Liam Hemsworth took over the role of Geralt of Rivia in the fourth season of Netflix's "The Witcher." Many critics noted that the character was less prominent against the backdrop of the expanded cast and the shift in focus away from the witcher. However, Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt in the CD Projekt RED game trilogy, believes that Hemsworth handled the task better than it seems at first glance.
In an interview with GamesRadar at the Golden Joystick Awards 2025, Cockle admitted that he was upset by Cavill's departure, who, according to him, "was a magnificent Geralt." But after watching the new season, he concluded that Hemsworth "is doing great" in this challenging role.
According to the actor, Hemsworth's main advantage is that he did not copy Cavill's manner or the signature low voice inspired by Cockle himself.
"He's different. He made the character his own — and that's exactly what an actor should do. I think he did a fantastic job. I look forward to the fifth season and seeing where it all goes."
The fourth season of "The Witcher" received a cool reception from critics at the start, and although its rating on Rotten Tomatoes later rose from 50 to 58%, the series still failed to maintain its previous viewership. However, the fifth and final season will be released in any case — filming took place in parallel and has already been completed. Its release is expected closer to the end of 2026.
